Description

Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish Delights are a luscious pastry treat featuring flaky puff pastry filled with a smooth cream cheese mixture and fresh, juicy strawberries. These delightful danishes are baked to golden perfection and topped with a sweet strawberry glaze or vanilla icing, making them perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a special dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Strawberry Filling

  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, room temperature
  • ½ cup (60 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Puff Pastry

  • 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten with 1 teaspoon water (egg wash)
  • 2–3 tablespoons sugar for topping (optional)

Toppings

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) strawberry jam (optional)
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2–3 tablespoons (30–45 ml) milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: Clean and slice the strawberries. In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Stir well and let the mixture sit for 15 minutes to macerate and thicken.
  2. Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, blend the room temperature cream cheese with ½ cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into equal squares or rectangles, depending on your desired danish size. Spread a generous amount of the cream cheese filling onto each piece, then layer the macerated strawberries on top.
  4. Apply Egg Wash and Sugar Topping: Brush the edges and tops of the puff pastry with the beaten egg wash to ensure a golden brown finish. Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons of sugar over the top of each danish if desired for added sweetness and crunch.
  5. Bake the Danishes: Arrange the prepared danishes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed, flaky, and golden brown.
  6. Prepare the Vanilla Glaze: While the danishes bake, whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, and 2 to 3 tablespoons milk until smooth and drizzle-able.
  7. Finish and Serve: Once baked, allow the danishes to cool slightly. For an extra touch, warm the strawberry jam and brush it over the top of each danish for a glossy finish. Alternatively, drizzle the prepared vanilla glaze over them before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture.
  • Make sure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy blending.
  • Egg wash gives puff pastry a beautiful golden color and shine.
  • Optional toppings like sugar on top add a nice crunch, while the glaze adds sweetness and moisture.
  • This recipe can be doubled or halved depending on your needs.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese with a vegan cream cheese alternative.
