Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables and Protein
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 cup julienned carrots
- 1 cup snow peas
- 4 green onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup cooked chicken or tofu (optional)
Noodles
- 8 oz chow mein noodles
Sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Cooking Oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Additional oil as needed for stir-frying
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Slice all vegetables and optional protein; set aside to ensure all components are ready before cooking.
- Cook Noodles: Cook chow mein noodles according to package directions. Drain, rinse under cold water to prevent sticking, and toss with a little oil to keep them separated.
- Make Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
- Cook Protein: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Cook chicken or tofu until browned and cooked through, then remove from pan and set aside.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables: Add more oil to the pan if needed. Sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant, then add carrots, snow peas, and cabbage. Stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Combine and Sauce: Return noodles and cooked protein to the pan with the vegetables. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir-fry for 2 more minutes, mixing everything thoroughly until well coated and heated through.
- Finish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions over the stir-fry, toss once more, and serve hot immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute chicken or tofu with shrimp or beef for variety.
- Adjust the amount of soy sauce or oyster sauce according to your taste preferences.
- For a vegetarian or vegan option, ensure oyster sauce is replaced with a vegetarian alternative.
- Using fresh vegetables keeps the stir-fry crisp and vibrant.
- Chow mein noodles can be replaced with other thin noodles if unavailable.
