Description

A flavorful one-pan Cajun Shrimp and Rice Skillet recipe that brings a spicy Southern twist to tender shrimp cooked in a seasoned rice base. This quick and easy meal combines aromatic Cajun spices, succulent shrimp, and buttery rice for a comforting dinner perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale

Rice and Broth

  • 1 â…“ cups uncooked long grain white rice
  • 2 â…” cups chicken broth

Shrimp

  • 1 pound large or jumbo shrimp, peeled and de-veined
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic

Cajun Seasoning

  • 1 ½ teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano (or substitute Italian herb blend or Herbs de Provence)
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cajun Seasoning: In a small bowl, whisk together paprika, salt, garlic powder, cracked black pepper, onion powder, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes until well combined to make the Cajun seasoning blend.
  2. Cook Rice: In a large skillet or pan, stir together the uncooked rice and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover the pan and cook the rice for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Prepare Shrimp: While the rice is cooking, toss the peeled and de-veined shrimp with the remaining melted butter, minced garlic, and the prepared Cajun seasoning until the shrimp are evenly coated.
  4. Combine Shrimp and Rice: After the rice has cooked for 15 minutes, stir the seasoned shrimp into the rice. Cover the pan again and cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, indicating they are fully cooked.
  5. Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately for a delicious, hearty meal.

Notes

  • You can adjust the cayenne pepper and crushed red pepper flakes to control the heat level of the dish.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with olive oil or vegan butter.
  • Fresh parsley garnish adds color and freshness but is optional.
  • If you prefer more vegetables, consider adding bell peppers or diced tomatoes when cooking the rice.
  • Ensure shrimp are thawed completely if using frozen shrimp for even cooking.
